MODIFICATION OF HAND AUGER DRILL BIT MADE FROM USED CAR SPRINGS FOR ALLUVIAL SAMPLING ACTIVITIES IN KETAPANG DISTRICT
Abstract
This research purpose was to modify a hand auger drill bit made from garnished iron which is thought to blunt easily when dealing with alluvial sand-type material with material from used car springs which is made of steel and has long-lasting sharpness when dealing with sand. Apart from that, to overcome the fall of samples when lifted, especially for saturated sand samples. Researchers also wanted to observe to what extent the incalination hand auger drill to catch material, especially saturated alluvial sand. From the result of the research, it was found that using car spring material as a hand auger drill bit has good sharpness so that the activity of rotating the hand auger for sand sampling is lighter than using hand augers sold on the market. The Inclination of hand auger drill modification at an angle of 300 has better inclination saturated sand samples and is easier in removing samples from the drill tube compared to the drill bit angle of 150 which cannot lift samples optimally and the drill bit of 450 which has difficulty when removing samples from drill tube
